    1. Sure do. Start with grounding/earthing yourself for beginners. Chemical sensitivities typically is a liver issue that we address with supplements.

    Dr. Jeff,

Last year, I was bitten by a tick. It was confirmed to be infected with Borrelia, so I went through the “standard” (i.e. ineffective) few weeks of Doxycycline.

Things seemed okay for a while, but I’m now having a bunch of strange symptoms. I’ve followed a herbal supplement routine for several months, but with marginal success.

My primary Doctor is not a Functional Medicine Doctor, but he’s open to “alternative” treatments. I’m considering asking him to order the following tests for me:

    – EBV
    – CMV
    – HSV 1, 2, and 6
    – Parvovirus B19

Are there any other tests I should ask about? I have insurance, but will pay out-of-pocket, if required.

Thanks for any help you can lend. I look forward to more of your lectures.

    Regards,
    Aaron

    1. That’s a good start in add on viral panel. Throw in food sensitivities to check for Gluten and Dairy sensitivities as well. Candida IGG would be another good one too. I will be talking about Lyme’s at my next lecture on SuperBug infections.

Ah, great recommendations! Thank you very much!

Last night, I watched a brief YouTube video by Dr. Richard Horowitz titled “Dr Horowitz Presentation to the Belgium Senate” and he quickly goes through the 16-point “Lyme MSIDS Map” that he developed. This is a great reference.

As I listened, I found that I had nearly every affliction he noted. I found a web-based version of the assessment and a score of 46 or higher indicates the strong likelihood of Lyme. I ranked myself a bit conservatively, but still ended-up with a score of 63.

Anyhow, thanks again for your thoughtful follow-up and suggestions. I’ll be looking for your lecture on SuperBug infections!

        All the best,
        Aaron

p.s. For anyone that might want to see Dr. Horowitz’s 16-point Lyme MSIDS Map, search YouTube for “Dr Horowitz Presentation to the Belgium Senate” and jump to 7 minutes 36 seconds in the video.

Is there a way to treat hypothyroidism that does not include Synthroid (Levothyroxine) or any prescription drugs? I have been taking half a tablet of Simply Adrenal food supplement tablet and 2000IU of vitamin d everyday, along with the Synthroid. I take fish oil supplements and multivitamins semi regularly. I don’t like the way Synthroid makes me feel and I have been trying my hardest to lead a healthy lifestyle. I exercise three times a week and eat clean. I am 19 years old, 5 foot 3, 105 pounds, and on 88mcg of Synthroid. Thanks.

    Hello,

For a couple of years, now, I’ve been trying to uncover the cause of some “mystery” illness that’s kicking my butt. The symptoms include extreme fatigue, painful joints, a frequent sore throat, trouble swallowing (at times, like the reflex will not kick-in), palpitations, lightheadedness, GI issues, a recurring cough, and, lately, cognitive issues (as in brain fog and memory problems).

Naturally, the “conventional” Doctors haven’t found anything. They keep looking, but, as you know, they have a limited set of tools in their toolbox. As the saying goes: “If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” Well, despite this, I’ve refused all offers for medication, because none of them could ever explain why I should take them.

Eventually, after seeing my PCP numerous times, seeing a couple of specialists, and going to the E.R. many times, I consulted with a Naturopath. While not a concrete diagnosis, she thinks I might have Sjogren’s Syndrome. But, she did NOT run any tests. Rather, she reviewed the many tests I’d already had, she completed a thorough history on me, and, most important, she asked good questions to get good answers.

Working in the technology field, I’m very used to troubleshooting problems. For better or worse, this spills-over into my health issues, as I like the idea of testing things. But, the Naturopath thinks Doctors over-test, over-diagnose, and over-prescribe. Plus, in the case of Sjogren’s Syndrome, she feels the tests are unreliable–at least for early onset of disease. One of the specialists I did see was a Rheumatologist and all my tests were “normal,” so, if I do have it, perhaps she is right.

Anyway, sorry for the long preamble. That was for context.

    A few questions:

    1. Can Sjogren’s Syndrome be caused by a particular virus?
    2. Are there any supplements (to which she is also opposed, most of the time) that help Sjogren’s?
    3. Besides avoiding gluten-containing grains (which she suggested), are there other foods to avoid?
    4. Has your clinic been able to halt or reverse Sjogren’s Syndrome in any patients?

    Thanks for the consideration.

    1. Yes. Must go after the infection with the correct supplements and starve the infection of dairy as well. If the infection is severe we typically just recommend having the tooth pulled.

    Hello Dr. Jeff,

My brother has been battling leukemia for the past year or so and has had a bone marrow transplant as well as chemotherapy and radiation. It will be coming upon his one year mark on his birthday (12/24) that he had the transplant and when he started a “experimental” drug that the doctors prescribed him.

Two days ago he went in for routine blood work and was told he needed to be admitted into the hospital because his wbc count was extremely high and he was starting to get a fever. This all occurring after he received a flu shot. His doctors immediately started administering him chemo in the pill form, which appears to have dropped the wbc count down some. They are currently waiting test results to see if it has returned , and if that is the case they are prepared to start him on another bout of chemo and radiation.

I feel like if he goes through this all again it may very well be what finishes him off. The doctors have told him he is young and strong that he can fight it again, but he has lost so much weight since the last time that he looks like skin and bones. He has always been a big guy weighing close to 200lbs and the “experimental” drug they’ve had him on has caused him to lose his appetite, eating only as much as my 1 year old daughter and weighing less than me which is 140lbs.

At this point is there anything that can be done for him? I truly feel like these doctors are just trying to run him into the ground. Unfortunately he only has Medicaid so I’d imagine it’d be hard to find an alternative doctor who would accept him. If you have any advice it is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I was diagnosed with graves disease in December with all of the symptoms that follow. I’m handling symptoms with herbs but need the root cause of this mess. I’m thinking maybe a virus (saw your video). I was a very sick child…. always on antibiotics. I’ve had my tonsils, appendix, and gallbladder removed (they can’t have my thyroid :). I had mono and roseola as a child. My liver, I feel, is inflammed. I am a former nurse. I take great care of myself, yet I deal with all of this. Advice or opinions about where to go from here?

  19. About 2 months ago I noticed the sensation that I was holding a small beanbag under my left arm. I also began noticing twinges of pain in my whole underarm lymph node area. Upon examination there was no discernable lump, though it was tender any where I pressed including around the back also near my underarm. My doctor ordered a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound of lymph nodes. I refused the mammogram and the ultrasound showed nothing. (of the few lymph nodes that they could see) I have cut out sugar and began juicing and taking supplements, ie. curcumin, vitamin d, c, etc. and it is less noticeable. Is there a specific blood test that would give me more insight into what may be going on?

    1. You have an infection in your lymph nodes. Sometimes teeth are the culprits when it parks there. Blood work most of the times won’t show anything because the infection is in the lymph node and not your blood. We can help address is on a visit in office or via Skype. Craig,
you need a nagalase test. That is if all the lab staff havent been murdered yet.
If you suspect viral (you dont believe Stefan Lanka that they dont exist then) then try the Klinghardt special from Biopure, and they arent paying me to promote that but perhaps they should.
Have you all your teeth tested and root canals removed? Remember Hal Huggins used to say that they are all toxic and infected, as did George Meinig. Jerry Tennant says the same, and his little gadget is meant to be able to find the short in your energy pathways and find the meridian where the infection is. The Klinghardt blend mentioned has antivirals as part of the formulation.
You should always throw in heavy metal/organic chemical detox, such as Georgiou (da Vinci, Cyprus) Chris Shade, Bio pure/Klinghardt.
Have you been tested for your governments Bio weapon called Lyme disease? Metal plus wifi plus Lyme plus vaccination = arthritis almost guaranteed. In fact remove one factor and its pretty much sure.
I assume you have corrected for the probability of a leaky gut and dysbiosis, as you know some stuff?
If viruses do exists in the Pasteur way of thinking and not the Bechamp Enderlein model (and not the Lanka they dont exist model)
      – then keep up the pressure with ginger and garlic*, olive leaf, “rizols”, and other herbals – oregano oil, citus tea, cloves, plus silver colloidal, and grapefruit seed for co infections.

Deal with them all and get back to me.

If Jeff doesnt mind me saying so, I think if he had more time and not a busy job and family, he would be able to tell you:

to stop using plastic, swap out the products in plastic for glass jars, swap cans lined with BPA (and the other bisphenol polymers) for glass,
eat an organic, high fat, monounsaturated and saturated, high green leaf and root veg i.e. prebiotic fibre rich diet, with appropriate protein for your level of activity, imagine a big avocado salmon omelette with a big salad. That’s sort of a model meal – short of elk hunting.

Grow your own leafy salads and brassicas (this is hard but you know its organic this way), thats cauliflower broccoli, green cabbage, asian spicy salad leaves, mustard greens etc etc
Take iodine Lugols, but look up a safe test you can use to assess your status, such as painting 1inch square Lugol solution on an area of skin, notice how fast it goes, then increase to two inch square. Like Dr Edward Group, I have done some self testing for high does of iodine, but I built up slowly from one drop Lugols in 2 litres water. Check what Drs Brownstein and Group have to say on iodine.
Dr Kharrazian points out that a possible viral Hashimotos autoimmune thyroid condition might be exacerbated by high iodine, but the Jerry Tennant also seems to think that we are so deficient its impossible to have too much, and you cant trust the (sea) food sources.
Its stupid to point out single nutrients since you need them all – but you probably need selenium as everyone does. Mustard and Brazil nuts contain selenium in good amounts, but its worth supplementing as Dr G Schrauzer recommended 300mcg to 600 per day.
Am sure our colleagues at DHS would point out that building up your fitness with appropriate levels of short interval training and loosing belly fat helps to lower aromatase, raise HGH and testosterone (important for women too) and maintain the correct balance of testosterone to endogenous estrogen. Our friend Mark Sisson has good info on HIIT on his daily apple website.

Is it too obvious to point out? sauna, steam room, sweating ? Check you can take the heat and you have the correct response (heat shock protein genetics) and have enough salt – you know by now, Celtic sea salt, Himalyan, PDCM72+ Millennium natural for minerals.

Those are the main things – its easy to assume everyone knows about phytoestrogens but I guess thats something else to look up.
Legumes and unfermented soy especially are worth avoiding, and not just because they are full of toxins, (Dr Gundrys “plant paradox”) but seem to contain isoflavones that dock with estrogen receptors in some studies. That area gets boring and complicated fast.
But maybe more important than all this might be circadian rhythms – blue light, watching the sun rise in the morning, to punctuate your waking cycle
      – and incandescent lights, or candles if safe, and “blue blockers” / red glasses at night / “f.lux” program on the PC and e.g. Twilight on the cell /smart phone. These interventions allow melatonin to rise in the correct “ancestral” manor, after midday and especially sunset. The complexities of the relationship between melatonin serotonin and estrogen, are way beyond the scope of my pennys worth contribution. Needless? to say, there is correlations between breast cancer and ladies who work nights and have total messed up circadian and then menstrual cycles (if you want an unedited and voluminous ramble on this, then read Dr Jack Kruses pages, or watch his last 5 years of cult interviews by every self appointed health guru podcaster)
Am sure the medical friends would agree also, that we shouldnt pick and choose areas of health to work on since it is all connected – but strive for an overall optimal health – thats what I too recommend.
Good luck and if this doesnt work, move to Tibet
